Celebration of National Library Week began 60 years ago in 1958. Being Islanders, we are fortunate to have TWO libraries to celebrate with! Let's support the libraries this week by participating in their programs. Each library is offering different programs for the community to participate in.

MENASHA

This week, Menasha's Elisha D. Smith Library is celebrating National Library Week by giving refreshments, giveaways and a chance to win prizes.

This week Menasha is promoting their Food For Fines drive. Bring non-perishable food items to the library’s Circulation Desk. Generally, a dollar’s worth of food will pay off two dollars in fines. This does not apply to lost or damaged library materials. The food will go to the Double Portion Soup Kitchen in Menasha. Call 920.967.3680 for more information.

Other family-friendly programs for National Library Week include:

Story Times on Monday or Tuesday at 10:00am.

Family Movie Night on Tuesday at 6:30pm. The movie will be Coco (©Walt Disney Pictures., rated PG, 105 minutes, animation/adventure/comedy).

Bilingual Story Time on Thursday at 11am for a 1/2 hour bilingual (Spanish/English) featuring books and songs. For preschoolers and caregivers.

Jazz Concert on Saturday at 2pm. MJD, a jazz trio will be performing original jazz compositions. The concert will be in the Fireside Room on the main floor. Light refreshments will be served.

NEENAH

The Neenah Public Library states they are not doing anything other than their regular programming for National Library Week, but wanted us to highlight a couple of their programs this week. All programs can be found on their calendar at: https://www.neenahlibrary.org/events/month

Introduction to using DNA in Geneology Research is a FREE 6 hour adult class. Mary Eberle, owner of DNA Hunters, LLC, provides clear instruction on how to use DNA results to uncover more about your family history. DNA testing is the newest and most exciting tool in genealogical research! It can also be overwhelming to understand the results and how to find relatives using those results.

Here are the topics that will be covered in this workshop:

Introduction to Using DNA for Genealogy Research.

Using Autosomal DNA for Genealogy Research.

Using Y-DNA, Mitochondrial DNA, and

X-DNA for Genealogy Research.

Hands-on Exercise: This exercise will go through interpreting one person’s DNA results from Ancestry.
