William Waters Oshkosh Architect 

Did You Know?.....

William Waters (1843–1917) was an American architect who designed numerous buildings in Wisconsin that eventually were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He was responsible for designing much of historic Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and was also responsible for designing the Wisconsin building for the Columbian Exposition. Waters died in 1917 and is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Oshkosh. After his death, Oshkosh honored him by naming the intersection of Washington Avenue and State Street as the "William Waters Plaza".

Mr. Waters designed nine buildings total in Neenah and Menasha, five of which are located on Doty Island. In Neenah: The Gilbert-Lachmann House, the Perry Lindsley House, The Henry Spenser Smith House, and the Ellis Jennings House ; plus The George Banta House in Menasha.

Fun Fact!

Doty Island was a filming location for a movie in 2017!

A supernatural thriller called “Wraith", partly inspired by Doty Island’s ghost stories, was filmed in Neenah and Menasha.

 

The film, directed by Michael Sajbel, features a family encountering a ghost-like presence in a mansion. Doty island is known for its historic homes and the Syme Gilbert house on 910 East Forest Avenue was chosen for the exterior scenes and the movie poster. The interior scenes were filmed in a house on E. Wisconsin Avenue in Neenah.
