Volunteers Clean Up Doty Island

Every year the Doty Island Development Council hosts a "Doty Island Clean Up Day". Yesterday, 28 volunteers - including residents, DIDC members, girl scouts (one brownie and one daisy!), and boy scouts (Troop 14) met at 8am for a Manderfields/Shellattes breakfast to start off their day.

Thirty-two garbage bags were used to collect the found trash. Most groups were surprised by the number of cigarette butts they found. For the most part, the trash was to be expected except for a few finds:

* Set of automobile tires found by Troop 14. To be disposed by City of Menasha.

* New android phone with Otterbox Case. They will recharge and try to find the owner.

* Key Fob along the railroad track

* Numerous beer cans found at River Park

With all the volunteers, it didn't take long for us to clean the island and a fun time was had by all!
